Especially when things have taken a turn.

I've used this blog as a means of updating you on my workouts, my stresses, feelings, frustrations and so on. From now on, I hope to concentrate on my training and use this as a diary about prepping for the Northern Michigan Bodybuilding/Fitness/Figure Championships September 30, 2006.

Oh..who knows..some feelings and interjections may pop up! ;)

I have a trainer now who will see me through this strange and exciting endevor. I have a new workout plan and diet. When I say diet, I dont mean "diet" I mean d-i-e-t! My meals now consist of lower carbs, and tons of lean protein, plus some good fat. It's a wide deivation from my previous nutriton plan because it doesnt include things like rice, whole grains, pasta, skim milk, and other things that are healthy, but not good for prepping.

Yesterday I was supposed to do shoulders and arms..but I got to the gym late and only had time to punish my shoulders. This morning is arms and cardio.

Oh, and today I WILL GET TO THE GYM ON TIME!!

Silly Love Songs

Ok. My transformation journey has taken another turn. I had a fire under me earlier this year to do a bodybuilding competition. I kind of lost the fire when Cameron was born, but the fire is now back and brighter than ever. The competiton is offically called " The Natural Northern Michigan Bodybuilding Championship and Peggy Sue Crawford Fitness and Figure Classic" help in Saginaw, MI September 30th, 2006. I have just over nine months to get to at least 10% bodyfat. Seeing how Im currently at 31, I have a mountain to climb, but it's not impossible. I am determined to make it. I don't care at this point about winning, I just don't want to be booed off-stage!

I do have the organizer, Peggy Sue Crawford, in my corner. She's going to give me a traning program and a meal pan for the first 12 weeks and go from there...so here we go! Updates will of course be coming..

The last two days have been very sluggish, in fact yesterday I went to the emergency room because I was having sharp chest pain on my left side. Turns out the doctor thinks its a skelital (spelling) issue and not to worry.

Little Willow

To my dear friend...

I really thought I wasnt going to be able to deal with this for a couple of days. I was so, so sure there wasnt going to be any problems and I was confident I would be talking to her again very soon. I dont have a plan for what I want to write Im just letting my thoughts flow. I like you love Julie and I never really told her that. We all know we should tell the ones close to us how we feel about them before we cant but sometimes that gets pushed to the back of our minds. I know she knows but I should of told her. The last time we actually spoke on the phone was when my son was born in March. She was so happy for us. We had each others numbers and I should of called more. Ive known Julie for over two years. I remember when she ws so weak when she started her BFL journey she used rolled coins as dumbells, and she had to eat some of her meals through a feeding tube. I could always count on hearing from her every day, even on days when it was more or a struggle than others. She would even email me during a workout..which at that point I would jokingly tell her to get back to work and contact me when she's done. We were tremondous (spelling) friends even though we never met. I truly wish I could of gone to the last Tennessee BFL meeting in October, but God must of had a reason why I didnt go. I was looking thru some emails that I had saved thougout my jounrey that has inspired me..most of them were from Julie. This is one she sent me and told me to include in my challenge packet..I would like to share it with you:

Note your slip as well and how I KNOW you are going to overcome it here in the end. Be sure to mention how you have helped others, how you post encouragement to the Guestbook (for years!), how you changed your job, how you pre-empted diabetes, you got married...you have totally changed your life. I would never have carried through with BFL and eventually become a champion if not for you. In fact, many people include additional information in their packet. Here's something you may want to print and send with your packet...way before I was a champ.

Julie Whitt, Guestbook Post, 6/1/04 C3W9D58 I've received many e-mails from all of you that say I've inspired you and that makes me so happy. I'd like to talk about someone who inspires me...Gary Jacobs. The first day I logged on the Guestbook in September 2003, Gary wrote me to see if I needed any help or advice on my first challenge. He consistently checked on me every single day of that challenge. I doubt there was anyone on the planet any more proud of me than Gary was when I finished. A special memory of mine is Christmas Eve when Gary and I e-mailed back and forth, the equivalent of a chat, while I was doing my UBWO before all the holiday festivities began. I started challenge two in January and as usual, Gary was there with a daily dose of encouragement. When I was seriously injured and hospitalized in March, there was an e-mail from Gary that said, "I'll be praying for you." That was when I knew I had made a friend just as special as my friends here at home, even though we've never met. I was in despair after my injury, but Gary told me that he knew I would overcome this. And I did. Now here I am in the last weeks of challenge three, and guess who's still checking on me? You know, I couldn't quit BFL if I wanted to, because I know Gary would kick my @$$! And I would never let him down. Gary has trained for two marathons in the time I've known him and now he's going to enter a body-building competition. I've got tears in my eyes right now just thinking about all he's been through to get to this moment. He works, he goes to college, he's becoming a certified trainer, he's a husband and he wants to be a father. He is my mentor and I want to send kudos his way for the wonderful friend he is to me and so many others. God bless you, Gary. That's the kind of friendships that are made through BFL. Friends-for-LIFE.

I love you Julie. I will miss you.

Hi, Hi, Hi

I had a great workout and a great eating day. Did I inform you of my latest workout shcedule?

Monday:

legs, abs, 20 min light cardio

Tuesday:

chest, cardio, 30 min moderate cardio

Wednesday:

back, 12 minute guerilla cardio

Thursday:

arms, 45 min cardio at 80% max

Friday:

shoulders, interval training, 12 minute guerilla cardio

Saturday:

20 min cardio, abs

Sunday

rest

____________________

that workout is outlined in a Muscle Media mag from October 2001. It's pretty tough but I feel impowered! I really have to concentrate on my week long goal of getting to the gym on time because with the cardio these workouts take longer than an hour.

I also made out my meal plan for the entire week. Hopefully that keeps me on autopilot.

This upcoming week is going to be challenging, Wendy is going to make Chistmas cookies all week. So here comes a big temptation.

I will get my cardio in today. I didnt get it in yesterday becuase Wendy slept all day and guess who took care of Caermon? Yep, me..

Dont get me wrong, I love my son and we had a great time, but sometimes I think I do a better job of parenting..should I of said that?

Forget I did.

I feel pretty good about last week, I strung together a ton of clean days and I plan to do the same this week!!

I will blog tomorrow!

See ya!

Move Over Busker

I have given up on trying to kind a relitive Macca song for my posts! LOL "Move Over Busker" was one of my favorite tunes off the "Press To Play" album.

One of the things I have to correct immedialty is the time I get to the gym. Again today I had to shave some stuff off the workout in order to get to work on time. I can't be doing that all the time.

Today's workout:

BB CHEST PRESS
DB INCLINE PRESS
DB FLYS (all done with one warmup set, then a sets of 8, 6, 4, 2..the last set being near my max)

then 20 min at 75% max HR on the eliptical (should of been 30)

Good news?

I STARTED THIS CHALLENGE AT 312 POUNDS..I'M NOW AT 302!!! THREE POUNDS TO GO TO BREAK THE 300 POUND MARK!!!!!

I'm very happy about this!

Also, I had a very rewarding and positive dream last night. I remember it very vividly.

I think some friends and I were at a movie and we were getting food for the film. I got up to the counter and starting making comments about all of their super-sized portions. The girl behind the counter, who was probably in her late teens, told me she LOVED all of their food, especially the super-size bacon double cheesburger with sauce!

In this dream, by the way, I was how I picture my future self to look like. Trim, healthy, and tanned. I started to explain how unhealthy that stuff is. Of course, she and her friends laughed it off as though they were untouchable. But I was ready to really illustrate my point.

I saw a heavy set women at a table in the eating area enjoying her meal (I know it may not of been nice to do this) made an example of her. I pointed out to the girl that yes, you can probably get away with eating whatever you wanted-for now, but as you get older your metabolisim is going to slow down and health problems will cacth up with you. You may not see the danger now, but you will feel it later.

A look of realization came over her face as she sat down to collect her thoughts. Tears welled up in her eyes and she promised she would change her ways. In a moment that probably came straight out of a "Dr. Phil" episode, we embraced and I wished her good luck.

How's that for a positive feeling?

Off The Ground

Week 5, day 29 (?)....

Ok so I didn't meet all of my 4 week goals. In fact, I met none of them. It's ok, I've come to grips with it. I was after all, sick for three days two weeks ago, Thanksgiving through a dinger into last week and so on. But those are just excuses aren't they?

So I re-did my 4 week goals, and changed up my workout too. Its quite the toughy actually. A friend suggested it, plus it had what I was looking for, so I am going to give it a try. In fact, if you have the old issue, or the Muscle Media CD-ROM, you'll find the workout in the October 2001 issue.

Today was leg day! Yippee! LOL

it consisted of:

BB Squats - sets of 12, 12, 10, 6, 4, 2
Leg Presses - sets of 12, 10, 6, 4, 2

Leg Extensions supered with Leg Curls, 3 sets of 8

(technically, the workout is supposed to include walking lunges and calf raises but I didnt plan the time out right, so I couldnt fit them in - was this concious or unconciously? LOL)

oh yeah I forgot - 20 min of cardio on the bike afterwards!

I'll have 90 year old legs tomorrow! Yeeeeeooouuch!

See ya tomorrow!

Getting Closer

I usually do not workout on Sundays. There's church, trying to fit in meals, taking care of Cameron, and the gym doesn't open until 10AM. I don't know how people do it who include Sunday as a regular day.

Today though because of Thanksgiving, Sunday was a normal day. I'm also proud to say I got my workout in despite all that I mentioned!

Today I did chest/shoulders/triceps abs:

BB INCLINE PRESSS SUPERED WITH PUSH UPS (4 SETS EACH. PUSH UPS WERE DONE TO FAILURE)

ARNOLD PRESSES SUPERED WITH SIDE RAISES (3 SETS OF 10, 8, 6 EACH)

TRICEP EXTENSIONS SUPERED WITH BODY DIPS (DIPS WERE DONE TO FAILURE, EXTENSIONS WERE 3 SETS OF 10, 8, AND 6)

CRUNCHES (4 SETS TO FAILURE)

I know a lot of people who feel they need a zillion exersices for their ab workout. My question is why??? Try doing a single set of crunches on a bench without letting your shoulder blades touch the bench. Do it, I DARE ya! When you do 4 sets to failure then come back to me and tell me you need an "ab bootcamp! LOL

Ok, have a good night. More tomorrow!

Monkberry Moon Delight

Well yesterday was thanksgiving and I successfully took it as a free day. Actually, for the very first time I got a little sick! LOL I think it was because the food was really really rich (i.e. fat!)

I do miss my pizza though, and if I stick to my goal of going today to Saturday clean, that means I will be missing my all time free day food: pizza.

Maybe to make me feel better I should wrote an ode to pizza?

Or maybe I should hop on the treadmill and think of other things?

Actually I already did that. Today instead of thursday was cardio day. Outside this morning the tempurature MIGHT of been 10 degrees. I just didn't feel like getting into a cold car and driving to the gym for only 20 minutes of work. I did what maybe I should be doing a lot more of, treking down to the basement and doing my cardio on our treadmill. I don't like it too much because the tread part of it tends to get a little slippery when you get to higher speeds. The best thing to do is hold on as you walk or run, it may not be the greaest way to do it, but at least your're doing it right?

So thats what I did. I actually got up to a level 7, which is the fastest I've ever ran! Granted was only able to hold it for 30 seconds as I reached my ten, but I got there right? That is what counts!

Eating so far is good. Man, it will be tough to go clean untill Next Saturday. Here we go. I'll kepp ya posted! :)

I've Had Enough

I had it pointed out to me this week that the posts in my blog paints myself in a very bad light.

You know what, they were right.

It's time to stop making excuses for my binging. It's time to stop blaming situations and people for my overeating. It's time to stop using food as a comforter, as a friend, and as a reward.

"I've had enough...can't put up with it anymore..no no no no no no.." (unless your a Paul McCartney buff, you won't know what album thats from so I'll tell you: London Town circa 1978. The album as a whole sucked, but this tune rocks!)

So I feel re-born, in a transformation sense.

Today's workout had to be cut short becuase again, I made it to the gym late. My own fault. Next week I will work on getting to the gym by at least 6:30.

But I did manage to get in two exersices per muscle. Today's workout was back, biceps, and calves. Everything was supersetted, 4 sets of 12, 10, 8, and 6 reps (unless noted) with increased weight each time:

Back:
Reverse BB Rows
Straight arm pulldowns

Biceps:
Hammer DB curls
21s doing a BB curl (21 reps each set)

Calves:
Calf press (machine: 3 sets each to failure)

then 20 min of moderate cardio on eliptical for 20 minutes.

Have a great Thanksgiving! I may blog tomorrow, but if not Friday.

My Brave Face

How are ya? Sorry I haven't been around in a while. I was sick for three days, and then I just didn't feel like blogging. Even though I put it down as a goal everyday. Besides, I see people are reading this now, so I have to keep it up for you right? :)

My confidence really got a boost from a lot of great and wonderful people yesterday. I want to thank everybody on the bodyforlife tracker website for supporting me and helping me realize that it's actually OK to be selfish about transforming your body. You DO have to own it and be responsible for it. Yes, support from people around you is fantastic, but more times than not your loved ones and friends may not fully understand what you're going through. How could they right? You can try to educate them on what you're experiencing, but if that still doesn't help, its not going to do you any good using that as an excuse. I think I was doing that. I'm not going to do that anymore.

A friend of mine is starting a fitness magazine and he asked me if I would like to write some articles for it! WHOOOOO HOOOOOO! LOL I told him I would love to! The articles will be about how to transform your body while dealing with food addictions and compulsive overeating. So now I would have that to help me stay on track.

I weighed in Monday at 315. That's mainly due to poor nutrition while I was sick, but I kind of lost control over the weekend. Plus, I only worked out two days last week. Gee, do you think those factored in to my weight gain? LOL

OK, today is cardio and a lower calorie day. I hope this day brings you joy and power!

GOOOOOOOOO TIGERS!!! (So what if the Red Sox got A. J.???)

Good Times Comin'/Feel The Sun

Well lessee...since my last post we got into another fight, about how Im not concentrating enough at work and how I need to stop emaling people and looking for support so much. I understand this is a work enviroment, reguardless of how weird it is, and in any other work enviroment my email commings and goings would be more closely monitored. But since this is my sole means of support I feel I need these people around me to keep my on track. Am I wrong? Probably. cWendy told me I need to perfom better at work. When I heard this, I did get defensive, and eventually I broke down and cried. I had enough for a week! I needed to hear something good about me. All my life I've heard only the bad things I do, not the good. That can build up on a person can't it? Am I overreacting??

Things are better now, but let's see how the week goes, I'm bound to screw something else up I know it.

Jeez, wasn't this blog supposed to be about my workouts? LOL

When I do workout, I'll let you know. So far so good! Have I had days where I gave into cravings? Yes. Are those days becoming fewer and fewer? Yes! But are they days that I give in getting me closer to my goals? No. What do I need to do? Use the tools of OA and give my powerlessness over food to God. When I do this, it really does help! I dont need to worry about it becasue its in His hands and He will see me through it. If I can do this everyday, I know I can make my goal of a whole week of abstinence.

Off to the gym...more later!

Temporary Secrectary

Howdy!

Well we are looking to hire another person at work to kind of take up the slack on myself, my wife, and my mother in law. Oh, did I not tell you? Not only do I work with my wife, but my mother in law, and technically my father in law - except my MIL and FIL are divorced, and have worked together that way for nearly 20 years!! Ninety percent of my life is spent living in the twilight zone!!

Where was I? Oh yeah, so we are looking to hire someone else, but Wendy is against it, and so am I. We work in a small office so the new person might have to sit on someone's lap! But last night Wendy had the nerve to come up and ask me to do more work. I would of been fine with that question, but she said it in a way to imply I wasn't holding up my end. I asked her what she meant by that-and I was exactly right! She meant she wanted me to stay off the internet and not email my BFL buddies so much.

Yeah yeah yeah I know..I shouldn't be doing that so much even though work is more of a family setting. However, SINCE I GET NO SUPPORT FROM ANYONE AROUND ME, I need outside support constant tly. Especially since I'm a COE!! I need a helping hand all the time or LOOK OUT BINGE CITY!!

Am I wrong for thinking like this??

Oh yeah I nearly forgot: chalk one up on my side because Wendy ordered a pizza last night and I didn't have any!!!!!! Ohhhhh yeaaaaahhhh, I get a TON of F@CKING SUPPORT FROM MY WIFE!!!! Can you see my dilemma???

Ok thanks for letting me vent. Don't let them tell you what you want to be!" - Paul McCartney off the "Ram" album (1971)

Not only can you get fitness insights on this blog, but Macca trivia! LOL

Yes, too many people.

I know some of you might disagree with me, but wouldnt it be great to cut ties off with your family right after you have a baby? I know in my case that would of made our lives a little easier. My family is coming over the 11th next month for an early Christmas and Wendy cant do anything but worry and fret over it. Jeez! She annalizes everything they say and do, and its driving me crazy. Sure, you might get another point of view if you ask her but let me remind you and her about something:

THIS IS MY BLOG AND ONLY MY OPINIONS COUNT!!!! ;)

Of course Im kidding, but maybe Im not. I know this sounds silly, but this is just about the only thing in my life (other than my workouts) that I have complete control over. Sometimes I dread coming here to blog, but why should I? I can write anything I want to, and it helps me sort out my feelings!

Truthfully, I would almost want to cut ties with my family if it meant bringing peace into my household.

Ok ok...how are my workouts going?

I did back and biceps yesterday but I got to the gym real late (7:15 am) so I didnt get my cardio in. It was kind of stewing in me while I was taking my shower after the workout but I then remembered, I do this workout again on Saturday! I can do the cardio then!

Im trying to stay positive about this whole family thing..oh yeah..if I stress out too much about it I might want to binge.

Great, why did I bring that up?

It's ok, dont worry. I keep my 12 week goals posted all over the place. All I have to do is glance and see why Im doing this.

Ok enough for today. See you next time!!

GOOOOOOOOOOO TIGERS!!!!

Silly Love Songs

Ya know, it's hard coming up with Paul McCartney songs to title each blog with, and by the time I finish this entry I'll probably think of another. But right now this catchy number from "At The Speed Of Sound" is all I can muster. (Why doesnt he do this song live anymore??)

So I missed a couple of days. When I started this blog I was going to enter something every day, but the network connection at work was slower than Rusty Staub running to first (you won't get that annology unless you are a longtime Tigers fan! LOL)! This I guess will be more of a week recap then.

I was able to shock my body once again and made every major muscle sore, which is a good thing! I even made my biceps sore! I dont know when the last time THAT happened.

Oh! Forgot to tell you, I went from 312 pounds to 306 in four days! I know why, but its still nice to see the numbers go down.

So what do I do?? I fell into a binge Friday. Lessee..I had a whole box of pop tarts, a quart of whole milk, then when I got home I had pizza (not much, but I still had it), and candy. Why you ask? Oh...I had a fallout with my brother. The guy really needs some mental help, as well as help with his obesity. The guy is nearly 450 pounds!! But of course he wont listen, so basically he told me goodbye (as in I will never talk or see you again..loooong story) and I was feeling kind of down. Two hours later I find myself at a 7-11 buying a box of pop tarts and a quart of milk, and asking for a paper bag as if I was buying booze. Actually, for a COE buying this was equivilent to an alcoholic buying a fifth of alcohol.

I know what made me upset, I knew I would want to eat, I knew I could do things to devert the feeling, but I didnt.

I just need to mooooooove on!

On a positive note, my workouts were great, and the fact that I upped my meals to 7 a day is really kicking my metaboilism up!

On an observation note:

if you workout in a gym, ever notice this: NOBODY WORKS THEIR LEGS!!!!

Oh sure, most of the women will, but its usually the abductor and the other machine that sounds like abductor (cant think of it right now).

If you work your legs in any way that makes you feel like youre going to pass out, or makes you see funny little colors when you are done with a set, you are one of the free, the proud, and the very, very few! Plus, usually all of the good leg equippment will be unused when its your leg day. Personally, I dont understand why more guys wont work their legs. Think about it, your legs contain your biggest muscles, the bigger mass of muscles that you work, the more calories you are going to burn during your workout, and throught your day. I love leg day because of that!

Ok..off to the gym!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOO TIGERS!!!!

Another Day

Day 1, C11..

I am no stranger to "day one" days. You are usually a little more pumped up because everything is fresh with a new slate.

So why did yesterday seems like such a frickin struggle??

Lessee..

It was Halloween..the mother of all days for candy (that's like starting a challenge on Christmas!)

There was the whole time change thing. It still takes a body a couple of days to get over that.

Hmmmm, there was one more thing..oh yeahhhhhhh

Wendy and I fought the whole F*cking day!!!! Yesterday was exausting! I had to take Cameron to work with me today because Wendy can't lift anything over ten pounds due to her gallbladder surgery. That meant I didn't get anything done at work, let alone track anything as far as meals go. Plus, the computers were all screwed up so I did a lot of running around. I think I ate 7 meals..it was at least 6, but it could of been 8! Good news is they were all clean.

Another plus: NOOOOOOOOOO CANDY!!!!!

Did all of my ranting sound like bitching? Sorry if it did. I know others have it worse.

Anyway, this was my workout:

chest (giant sets):
db incline presses
db flys
pushups using the smith machine

shoulders (giant sets):
arnold presses
side raises
front bb raises

triceps (superset)
cable extensions
dips

abs:
crunches - 1 set to failure

thanks for stopping by! But ever since I started one of my goou als was to be at least a finalist. In 2006 I beleive that will be possible. Challenge ten was a warm-up. Spring Training if you will.

Opening Day is Monday. Let's see what happens....

Don't Let It Bring You Down

Day 2 of limbo.....eating was super clean yesterday!

I tried to do cardio this morning but I only eeked out 15 minutes and earlier I felt a severe binge coming on.

Arrrrgggg..Wendy and i had a big fight in bed over my family last night. I never felt so far away from her as I did last night. She was crying, and I know it sounds terrible, but I didnt reallt care, becuase she hurt me to last night. I know my family is screwed up and I'll be the first to admit it. But when she attackes them, I take it as an attack on myself. Am I wrong for doing that? So for that reason, I had all of my energy drained out of me. One other thing troubles me, we NEED to see a marriage counselor, but she doesnt want to see one...uh oh...

well things are better this morning..but I thought I would share.

I'm shooting for two days of clean eating!!! I haven't blogged in a while but it was one of my goals to keep this up and track my progress for everyone to see. I really do believe in my heart I can win the BFL transformation challenge. At the very least, become a finalist. It's not the money that drives me to this conclusion, its the chance to inspire thousands, maybe millions by my journey. Last challenge was definitely a journey within a journey. I battled deep depression and compulsive overeating, plus the stress of family and raising a child. Trust me, the raising a child aspect of it is turning out to be the greatest thing I've ever done with my life. I see a lot of myself in my son, and I"m very much looking forward to showing him the world.

I'm taking a week off before I start C11, but I will be blogging here daily.
